If you struggle with sleeping, you’re not alone. Roughly 1 in 5 Americans have a sleep disorder. In 1910, the average person slept 9 hours per night. Today, Americans get an average of 6.8 hours of sleep each night. Obviously, we need all the help we can get!

Thankfully, there are lots of resources now that are designed to help you relax and fall asleep faster. And you can do it all from your phone! Here are the 6 best apps to get you to fall asleep.

1. Pzizz

Pzizz is an app that plays a soothing dreamscape while you sleep. The app creates its dreamscapes through psychoacoustic principles that will help you to relax and wind down. Pzizz offers custom listening lengths for up to 24 hours, a hybrid music system, controllable voiceover, and other personalized features. Pzizz can also be used offline so that you can sleep well anywhere, even on an airplane or while camping.

2. Headspace

This app is best known as a meditation app, but also is great for relaxation and sleep! The free version of the app has sleep music, classic sleep meditations, and sleepcasts (think grown-up bedtime story podcast) that help you relax before bedtime. Each sleepcast is story-based and helps you visualize calming experiences to get you to relax.

3. Slumber

This app is designed to encourage sleep through sleep meditations, soothing stories, music, and soundscapes. Slumber includes exercises like mindfulness, breath control, gratitude practices, guided imagery and visualizations, Ericksonian hypnosis, muscle relaxation, and even ASMR.

4. Calm

Calm, like many of the other apps, includes an abundance of stories, music, and meditations that promote relaxation and a better night’s sleep. The sleep stories are the most popular of the sleep features because they include celebrity narrators with soothing voices like Matthew McConaughey!

5. Relax & Sleep Well

Relax & Sleep Well is a hypnosis and meditations app that has been downloaded over 3 million times and is the number 1 sleep app in 3 countries. The app includes 4 free hypnosis meditations, but the rest have to be accessed through purchase only.

6. Sleep Cycle

Sleep Cycle is a bit different than the other apps that we’ve discussed here. This app is an intelligent alarm clock that tracks your sleep and lets you know how you slept. It tracks your breathing and tracks what stage of sleep you’re in so that it can wake you at a when you’re not in deep or REM sleep so that you wake up feeling well rested.
